§ 91.09. DONATION AND GIFT POLICY.

Latest version.
  • (A) General policy.
    (1) The library shall not accept library materials that are not outright donations. For any donation accepted, the library has the sole right to make use of accepted donated items in the way it determines is the most advantageous use. Donated books and other materials shall be accepted with a statement to the donor that no commitment can be made as to final disposition and that items may not be added to the library collection. The same criteria used for the purchase of library materials will be used in determining whether to accept donated materials, including whether or not an item belongs in a museum rather than a library.
    (2) Accepted donations will be shelved with the regular collection where they can be utilized, rather than on separate shelves that take them out of logical sequence.
    (B) Memorial books. The library welcomes donations of books, other library items and materials.
    (1) Donors wishing to present memorial donations should contact the town librarian.
    (2) Materials accepted must conform to the criteria established for selection of materials for use by library patrons.
    (3) A donor may make a specific request for how his or her monetary contributions may be utilized; however, the final decision shall be left to the discretion of the town librarian. If the donor has had a specific field of interest, books reflecting that interest may be purchased.
    (4) Whenever possible, memorial items may be placed according to the donor’s wishes. The final decision, however, shall be left to the discretion of the town librarian.
    (5) Checks for materials shall be made payable to the “Fredonia Public Library”. A thank you note shall be sent to the donor or notification of the donation shall be sent to the family on behalf or whom the donation was made.
    (6) Whenever possible, materials may have placed upon them a donation plate or label honoring the name of the person who donated the item.
